I had a friend in 8th grade who used to say, “Eww, I hate pink, it’s so girly.” She never liked any of my “girly” things (pink pouches, bags, Barbie stickers) because they were “too much.” Fast forward a few years, and the same girl is now obsessed with everything girlie and has that soft, feminine aesthetic all over her Instagram. She literally went from “eww pink” to “omg pink is my favorite,” and honestly? I love this transition.

There was a time when girlhood was something we were told to outgrow. We were told to tone it down, be less sensitive, less pink. But now? The girlhood we once rejected is trending. Aesthetics like coquette, with its lace, bows, and blush tones, or the vanilla girl look- clean, glowy, and soft- celebrate a kind of femininity that once felt “too much.” These trends say: being hyper-feminine isn’t cringe anymore, it’s cool. It’s just girls being girls.

Many are now fully in their hyper-feminine era, embracing everything pink, cutesy, delicate clothing, floral scents, beauty, emotions… and being strong. Yes, the “being strong” part wasn’t originally part of the girlie package, but I added it. Why? Because I can! *exhales air from nose emoji.

Look at Sabrina Carpenter, the icon and the ultimate girl’s girl. She’s soft, sweet, stylish… and is she weak? Absolutely not. She’s literally dominating pop music right now.

She proves, like many others, that you can be girlie and powerful at the same time.

Social media honestly played a huge role in making hyper-femininity cool again. Just open Instagram or Pinterest and you’ll see it everywhere- GRWM videos, aesthetic morning routines, skincare hauls, soft pink outfits, and girlhood nostalgia edits. Girls started romanticizing their lives, embracing softness, and building entire digital identities around lace, blush, bows, and being that girl. Social media didn’t just reflect this shift- it powered it.

Not everyone shows their femininity the same way. For some girls, it’s in the way they talk, soft but firm. For others, it’s their energy. Hyper-femininity doesn’t always mean bows and lip gloss. It can be loud or low-key, sparkly or simple. It’s really just about owning the parts of yourself that the world once told you to hide. So whether you're into florals and perfumes or more of a hoodie and no-makeup kind of girl, you can totally be in your hyper-feminine era.

Hyper-femininity is about embracing softness in a world that often rewards hardness. It’s saying, “I can wear pink, cry during a rom-com, and still be confident, intelligent, and ambitious.” In a world that often equates power with masculinity, embracing hyper-femininity is a bold, powerful act of self-expression. It’s about feeling pretty, powerful, and fully yourself.

Being girlie isn’t a weakness, it’s a flex.
