As winter bids us goodbye, it's time to pack away our puffer jackets and knee-length boots in our wardrobes and say hello to the season of colours. The temperature is rising, and the fashion world is getting ready to welcome Spring and Summer eventually.
Muhammad Ali once said, “Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee." The key mantra for this season's fashion trends also resonates with his thought- effortlessly graceful yet strikingly bold. The fashion trends this season felt uplifting, positive, and predominantly women-friendly. Based on insights from recent fashion weeks, celebrity styles, and consumer preferences, here are the key trends set to dominate Spring/Summer 2025:
Elevated Athleisure:
A recent survey indicates that consumers' preference for fashion trends is more individualistic and comfortable yet stylish. Think oversized blazers paired with athleisure-inspired pieces, breathable fabrics, and fluid silhouettes that offer both ease and elegance. With the comeback of classic boat shoes, airy cotton skirts and dresses, and stripes of a sailor kind, this season is witnessing a new way of preppy coastal styles. These styles have been seen significantly in Proenza Schouler, Bottega Veneta, and Miu Miu collections.

Gender Fluidity:
With its emphasis on adaptability and inclusivity, gender-neutral fashion is becoming more and more popular, enabling both men and women to wear whatever feels right for them. Designers like Tolu Coker and Priya Ahluwalia pushed the boundaries of gender-neutral fashion in London with their vibrant designs and coordinating blazer sets. Dior Homme showcased the emergence of gender-inclusive fashions at Paris Fashion Week with flowing shapes, loose pants, and gentle draping.

Fringes:
When winter is parting ways, yet the desire to feel it's coziness is still there, designers have introduced fringes to add more texture and comfort to your attire. And, fringe this season is going to be the talk of the town surely. Ulla Johnson and 3.1 Phillip Lim introduced ultra-fine, hair-like fringes in New York, while Prabal Gurung and Michael Kors introduced metallic and glass-like fringes. Traditional crochet dresses and fringed tunics gained popularity as well, owing to designers like Jane Wade, Simkhai, and Kallmeyer.

Soft shades:
Milan Fashion Week had a warm, summery vibe with the soft, sweet hues of limoncello yellow, plaster pink, and pistachio green. Sergio Hudson introduced minidresses, pantsuits, and satin skirts in butter yellow as part of the designers' celebration of the colour during New York Fashion Week. By combining vivid red with butter yellow in flowing shirts, knotted skirts, and vests, Tibi demonstrated her ability to effectively block colour. The colour was emphasised by Simkhai in a midi dress with 3D floral appliqués, and Who Decides War used it in frilly cardigans and giant textured tops.

A sheer moment:
Designers are embracing lightweight, see-through materials like tulle, chiffon, and organza to craft ethereal, flowing outfits. This trend offers a fresh take on sensuality, mixing elegance with allure without revealing too much. Notably, Khaite's Spring/Summer 2025 collection at New York Fashion Week showcased sheer organza dresses that beautifully balanced elegance and sultriness.
Who What Wear UK's social media editor, Megan Storey commented:
A sheer moment for spring/summer is always fun (and often welcome, depending on the temperature!). Not only do the tulle looks on this season's runways feel undeniably sexy, the pastel shades at Chanel and interesting draping at Issey Miyake make many of the pieces chic and sophisticated too.

Accessories Maximalism:
2025 is all about more is more. Designers are approaching handbags as wearable works of art, abandoning traditional shapes in favour of whimsical proportions, surprising materials, and sculptural silhouettes. Pockets on bags from Coach incorporated faux stickers, whereas hair ties and sneakers were fitted with metal studs by Chopova Lowena. t Moschino and Saint Laurent, models were seen draped in multiple layers of jewelry, pushing the boundaries of maximalist accessorizing. Meanwhile, chaotic layering, a close relative of this trend, appeared at Miu Miu and Acne Studios, offering a high-fashion take on excess and opulence.

Patterns of Plaids:
Plaid has emerged as a key trend this season, showcased in various forms, from structured separates to classic flannel shirts, coats, and ruffled skirts. While deeply rooted in Scottish heritage, plaid also carries strong associations with punk rock, offering both a rebellious and timeless appeal. Whether incorporated into casual or formal ensembles, plaid remains a versatile choice for spring fashion.

Celebrities continue to set the standard for fashion worldwide, greatly impacting popular trends with their street style and red-carpet appearances. Peep-toe heels, for instance, are expected to make a comeback this season as well after Jennifer Lopez was reportedly spotted sporting them.
